  22. This is what Pac*Bell wanted last year when it was forced to give up the
  23. monopoly on intraLATA toll calls. The PUC denied the doubling of the
  24. additional minute rate on measured local calls. Looks like the company is
  25. back trying to get what it wanted in the first place. If they get it, it
  26. will result in a basic   doubling of business phone bills.

  28. Since Pac*Bell still has the defacto monopoly on local telephone traffic,
  29. this is the one last place that it can raise the rates without fear of
  30. losing customers.
